In Cooperation with Inclusion Ireland
Who are we?
We are the Ombudsman for Children’s Office, or the OCO for short.
We protect the rights of the child.
What is the UNCRC?
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries, like Ireland, who have promised to protect children’s rights.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child explains who children are, all their rights, and the responsibilities of families and governments. Every five years Ireland has to tell the United Nations what is being done in Ireland to make sure all children have their rights respected.
What is a Children’s Report?
The United Nations wants to hear from children about what they think Ireland is doing to make sure all children get their rights. This is done through a report by children. The Office of the Ombudsman for Children are helping children to write this report.
We want you to help write this report, too.
What is a focus group?
Our focus group will be a meeting of a small group of children with intellectual disability. The meeting will be online through Zoom. At the focus group you can tell us what it is like to be a child in Ireland. You can share what you think about children’s rights in Ireland. Staff members from the OCO will be there to organise and support the meeting.
At the focus group you can share what you think by speaking or through art. You can be helped or supported by your parent to take part or share your ideas.
When is the focus group?
The focus group is on Zoom on 3rd July from 11am until 12pm. We will record the Zoom meeting so we can take notes to make sure we know what you have said for the report.
What will be in the report?
Your ideas and opinions will be in the report.
We will not put your name in the report.
Your photo might be in the report too, but only if you want it to be.
What do I do now?
Please contact Petria Malone of Inclusion Ireland, petria@inclusionireland.ie or 086-8373454. Petria is helping OCO to organise the focus group.
Forms and more information will be sent to you.
